Community Guidelines
Some F1RST house rules to abide by

F1RST allows users to add a variety of content, including reviews, photos and comments and in turn we expect users to be courteous and respect our community guidelines as they engage with the platform. This is mandatory to achieve F1RST’s goal of serving as a reliable and invaluable resource for people wanting to learn about the range of experiences the Caribbean has to offer.

We've put together some basic house rules that will ensure all users have an enjoyable interaction with the website and the mobile application. Please read the guidelines below for more information about the specific types of content that you might contribute to the site.

Inappropriate content

Expressing yourself through the tasteful use of colorful language and imagery is fine, but there is absolutely no need for threats, harassment, lewdness, hate speech, and other displays of bigotry.

Conflicts of interest

Maintaining an honest and personal stance is crucial. Your contributions should be unbiased and objective. Therefore, you shouldn't write reviews of your own business or employer, your friends' or relatives' business, or businesses in your networking group.

No one likes to view content that is randomly or aggressively placed for personal gain. Please make sure your contributions are relevant and appropriate to the forum. As we’re sure you can appreciate, reviews aren't the place for rants about a business' employment practices, political ideologies, extraordinary circumstances, or other matters that don't address the core of the consumer experience. Let’s keep this professional and purposeful guys!

Promotional content

Unless you're optimizing your business profile page, we generally frown upon promotional content. Let's keep the site useful for consumers, friends and loved ones, and not swamped with commercial noise that is invaluable.

Personal Privacy is a right we can to respect. Please don't publicize other people's private information, especially when they have requested against such actions. Please don't post “selfies” (close-up) photos of other people without their permission, and please don't post other people's full names unless you're referring to service providers who are commonly identified by their full names.

Intellectual property

The content that people may post on their F1RST account should be respected. Please don't take content from other sites or users. It goes without saying, but ensure all the content you contribute is created by YOU! ;)

Violations of any F1RST Guidelines may lead to the dismissal of your content and/or your F1RST account. Please report any content you find in violation of these F1RST guidelines

Additional Guidelines

The best reviews are passionate and personal. They offer a rich narrative, a wealth of detail, and a helpful tip or two for other consumers. Here are some thoughts for conscientious reviewers:

Personal experience:

We want to hear about your firsthand consumer experience, not what you heard from your co-worker or significant other. Try to tell your own story without resorting to broad generalizations and conclusory allegations.

Make sure your review is factual. Feel free to air your opinions, but don't exaggerate or misrepresent your experience. We don't take sides when it comes to factual disputes, so we expect you to stand behind your review.

Review updates:

Review updates should reflect a new experience or interaction with the business. A new review on a place you’ve visited before should bring a fresh perspective for users to better understand the business, its product or its services. If you'd like to add new insight to an old experience, just edit your review instead of creating a new update.

The ability for users to post their own images is a great feature to illustrate the range of experiences a business offers. From the goods and services they provide to the ambiance they have created, photographs capture these elements and give users who have never visited these venues before a much-needed sneak-peak into the establishment. When posting photos there are a few things you should keep in mind:

Keep it General:

Business photos should be broadly relevant to the business and reflect the typical consumer experience (e.g., what the business looks like, what the business offers, etc.).

Some Rights Reserved:

To maximize the benefits of F1RST to both users and businesses, we may remove photos that showcase a more unique personal experience (e.g., your smiling group of friends at the bar or the fly in your soup) as well as lower quality photos (e.g., too blurry or dark).

User Profiles

Don't be shy — use your account profile to let people know who you are and what makes you tick. Users want to read reviews from people they know and trust (not those with profiles that are empty or laced with inappropriate content). Here are a few things to consider when building your profile:

Be Honest:

We won’t all agree with each 100% of the time so when rating or reviewing a business, give your honest opinion. Don’t think about what’s cool to say or what you think your friends would say. After all, the purpose of F1RST is to give users the most accurate, well-rounded impression of a business in order to help them make informed decisions.

Engage Frequently:

The more you use F1RST, the more familiar the platform becomes with your lifestyle choices and the more useful it becomes to you and those within your network. So use it frequently and appropriately in order to reap the benefits of actual loyalty rewards, as well on-point recommendations for your favorite businesses and activities.

Commenting is a fun, open and (may we say) cool feature that allows anyone to express him or herself in a constructive manner, while simultaneously connecting with friends. A couple things to keep in mind when commenting:

Respect Boundaries:

Sometimes you may be able to comment on activities of people who are not your friends, but let’s not abuse this. Don’t harass people you do not know for any reason whatsoever.

Mind Your Words:

While it's easy to engage and comment, take care with what you write since you can't subsequently delete it. A dash of common sense goes a long way. And since user trust and transparency are important to us, anonymous users who are disruptive to the community will probably be dealt with more sternly than those who stand behind their words. (do we need to vocalize this?)

Business Owners

Business owners should be getting in on the act, too. Some words of wisdom to enhance your profile and facilitate easy engagement for potential clients:

About Your Business:

You can use the "About This Business" tab to tell people something special about your business. Please keep it relevant: don't use this feature to attack your competitors, reviewers, or F1RST.

Claim Your Profile:

If you want to take full control over what users see when they access your business profile, claim your profile to prevent anonymous edits. If you do this however, be sure to keep it up-to-date with the necessary contact information, amenity listings, inventory updates and images.

Respond to Your Customers:

If users who patronize your business can take the time to write a review about their experience, whether it’s positive, but especially if its negative, then we strongly recommend that you take the time to respond. If it’s a really great review, something as small as a ‘Thank you’ directed at the reviewer will suffice. For bad reviews however, we recommend that you take the comment to heart. Take some time to assess what the reviewer is saying and then provide a fair and honest response, directly addressing the issue raised.
